A stagnant culture holds a devastating effect on people’s worldview

One of the major challenges we face in our world, is the inability to unlearn outdated ideologies that no longer serve or hold significant value in today’s Society.

Or that which infringes on others’ rights, causes harm and pain. Any part of cultural practices that causes societal unrest or enforces patriarchy or misogyny that violates women, shouldn’t only be modified, but also abolished.

Ideologies and culture control the worldview of a people and determine how they present themselves. As such, they should be in a continuous state of evolving and never be stagnant.

While Tradition can be stagnant as a set of beliefs and principles that guide the people, and thus, shouldn’t change. But when they interfere with a culture that has evolved, then such a tradition ought to be modified.

Again, when the majority undermines, neglects or rejects their Culture and Traditions because they consider them archaic or primitive, they will serve as hindering factors to the people’s growth.

It will begin to affect how they present themselves to the world. Starting from the negligence of their core values and norms, until they become a nobody in the world.

The fact that a culture is considered primitive doesn’t call for its abandonment, but rather a call for action towards its upgrade and modernisation to make it more accessible to the rest of the world. Culture unites people, and if neglected, it can lead to division.

An archaic practice or tradition which served a community’s good, but is no longer deemed fit to be revered in modern times because it’s considered primitive, should rather be modernised to meet the present times’ traditional outlook.

Our forebears could be more knowledgeable than we think of ourselves.

What we refuse to unlearn can hinder what we ought to learn!
